Conclusion

I have attempted to cover all of the basic information needed to help rescue and care for wildlife most commonly found in and around populated areas.

I have tried to stress throughout, that the best course of action is to always call a rehabilitator whenever possible. Wildlife care is so specialized that what works for domestic animals just will not work for wildlife. It takes years of experience to know how to deal with the unique situations that can occur when caring for wildlife. If, however, there are no wildlife rehabilitation centers in your area, I hope that I have given enough information to help give your wild creature a second chance. There’s no greater feeling than to release back into the wild something that would have died if not for your intervention. Unfortunately, even those of us with years of experience have many failures. All anyone can do is try, knowing that even in failure you have made them as comfortable as possible and their death easier than if left alone.

I’m sure that there are many things that I have forgotten to include in these chapters and many unforeseen questions that I have not answered. If so, you can e-mail me directly at dedesnyder41.gmail.com.
